Yotes Split Home Doubleheader with Conference-Leading Enterprise State

Coastal - North Rallies for Walk-Off Upset to Open Weekend Series with Boll Weevils

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MONROEVILLE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Softball battled one of the ACCC Division II's top teams on Thursday, Mar. 26, earning a split in a home doubleheader against Enterprise State (Ala.). The Coyotes claimed a thrilling 8-7 walk-off victory in eight innings in game one before falling 5-2 in the nightcap.

With the split, Coastal - North moves to 11-22 overall and 10-8 in ACCC play, currently sitting sixth in the conference standings.

Yotes Battle Hard with Boll Weevils

Game one delivered plenty of drama, as the Coyotes showed resilience in an extra-inning battle. Enterprise State jumped out to a 3-0 lead and later held a 4-2 advantage deep into the game, but Coastal responded with a five-run sixth inning to surge ahead by three entering the seventh. The Boll Weevils answered with a rally of their own, plating three runs in the final frame to even the score at 7-7 and force extras.

The Coyotes capitalized when it mattered most in the eighth, manufacturing the game-winning run in walk-off fashion to secure a statement victory over the conference leaders. With the winning run at third, Chloe Sheppard executed a perfect bunt to bring home Destiny Holmes for the decisive score. Sheppard and Holmes each recorded two hits in the win, while Delana Peters also added a pair of hits. Jakayla Williams paced the offense with two RBIs, and Madison Freeman delivered a key triple earlier in the contest to drive in a run.

Despite facing one of the ACCC's most potent lineups and best starting pitchers in Victoria Hagemann, Coastal's pitching staff delivered in key moments, while timely hitting kept the Coyotes within striking distance throughout.

In game two, Enterprise State answered with a strong showing to salvage the split, handing Coastal a 5-2 loss. The Coyotes competed throughout but were unable to generate enough offense to overcome an early deficit. Coastal managed just four hits and struck out 11 times against Boll Weevils starter Summer Crunk. In the circle for the Coyotes, Jordan Avera provided a bright spot in the nightcap, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings in relief in just her fourth appearance of the season.

The split marks an important showing for Coastal Alabama - North against the top team in the ACCC D-II standings, as the Coyotes continue to position themselves for a strong finish in conference play.

Two More Ahead with the Boll Weevils

Coastal - North and Enterprise State will meet for an additional doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 28, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT in Enterprise, Ala.
