Box Score 4 MONROEVILLE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Softball battled through a competitive four-game home-and-home series over the weekend, ultimately earning a split against Marion Military Institute (Ala.) across Apr. 2-3. The Coyotes battled throughout the series, picking up one win at home and one on the road to move to 13-27 overall and an even 12-12 mark in ACCC Division II play.
Series Highlights
Coastal - North opened the series Thursday in Monroeville with a hard-fought 3-2 victory, fueled by strong pitching and timely execution. Locked in a tight battle throughout, the Coyotes delivered in the clutch with a go-ahead run in the sixth inning, while the defense held firm late to secure the one-run win.
Leadoff hitter Delana Peters set the tone, going 3-for-4 and delivering the decisive blow with a go-ahead triple in the sixth. In the circle, Bayleigh Elton and Abbie Huff combined for a steady outing, limiting Marion Military to just two runs on seven hits while striking out three and issuing only two walks.
Game two later that evening turned into an offensive showdown, with the Coyotes falling just short in a 9-7 decision. Coastal kept the pressure on all game long but couldn't quite match MMI's scoring surges, resulting in a split of the home doubleheader.
Destiny Holmes powered the offense in the nightcap, blasting two home runs and driving in four runs in a 2-for-3 performance. Synya Edwards added another standout effort, going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs, while Peters stayed hot at the top of the order with another three-hit game, finishing 3-for-4.
The series shifted to Marion, Ala. on Friday, where the Coyotes once again thrived in a close contest, earning a 4-2 win behind timely hitting and a strong pitching effort.
Edwards continued her big weekend with two doubles and two runs scored, while Jordan Avera went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Chloe Sheppard provided a spark from the nine spot, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. In the circle, Huff delivered a dominant relief performance, tossing 5.2 innings while allowing just one run on three hits to earn the win.
In the finale, the 'Yotes looked poised to claim the series but came up short in a 7-4 loss. Coastal stayed within striking distance throughout, but Marion Military used a late push and scored four runs over the final three innings to even the series.
Destiny Holmes drove in two more runs, finishing 1-for-3, while Alissa Holmes added a 2-for-3 effort with a run scored. Defensive miscues proved costly, as Coastal committed four errors, leading to five unearned runs in the setback.
Across the four games, Coastal Alabama - North demonstrated fight and consistency, particularly in close-game situations, with both wins coming by two runs or fewer.
Non-Conference Action Ahead
Coastal Alabama - North will look to build on the weekend's performance as they head into the final month of the season. The Coyotes are scheduled for a non-conference doubleheader next on Tuesday, Apr. 7, facing Baton Rouge Community College (La.) at 1:00 p.m. CT in Baton Rouge, La. The 'Yotes will then conclude the 2026 regular season with 12 consecutive ACCC games, six of which coming at home in Monroeville, Ala.
