Box Score 2 PHENIX CITY, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - North Softball team picked up a pair of conference victories on the road on Wednesday, Mar. 11, sweeping Chattahoochee Valley Community College (Ala.) in an ACCC doubleheader. The Coyotes secured a 7-4 victory in game one to open Wednesday's action before using an impressive comeback in the nightcap to take both games of the twin bill.
The overall record improves to 6-19 on the season, while the ACCC record moves back to .500 on the year at 5-5.Â
The Highlights
In game one, the Coyotes relied on a 13-hit performance as a team to earn a three-run victory over the Pirates, scoring four runs in the sixth inning to grab a late lead. Catcher Madison Freeman drove in three runs across the first game of the afternoon, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Jordan Avera also notched two hits in the victory, picking up a pair of RBIs in the process. Destiny Holmes added another RBI for the 'Yotes, finishing 1-for-4 at the dish, and leadoff hitter Gracie Nelson finished with a team-high three hits in the win.Â
From the pitcher's circle, Bayleigh Elton started the game for Coastal - North and finished with 4 2/3 innings of work, giving up four runs off seven hits. She struck out four. Abbie Huff earned the win from out of the bullpen, tossing the remaining two frames, allowing no runs and just one hit.
Later that afternoon, game two quickly went in favor of the home team as Chatt Valley managed to score one run across the first four innings. Leading 4-1 entering the final frame, the Coyotes sparked a late rally and tallied a four-run seventh to take a 5-4 lead. From there, Coastal - North secured the comeback victory in game two and the afternoon sweep in conference play.
Destiny Holmes and Sakari Frails both went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Gracie Nelson, Jordan Avera, and Chloe Sheppard all picked up an RBI each. Coastal - North out-hit Chatt Valley 10-9 in game two, with the 'Yotes finishing the doubleheader with 23 totals hits as a unit.Â
Lydia Brewer pitched the first two innings as the starter on the rubber for Coastal - North, while Madison Favre picked up the win with five innings from out of the bullpen. Favre allowed just one unearend win in her impressive five innings of work.Â
Momentum Builder
With Coastal - North now back at .500 in conference play, momentum could be on the side of the Coyotes to begin a run in ACCC Division II action. The 'Yotes are scheduled for an additional doubleheader against Chatt Valley on Saturday, Mar. 14, where the Coyotes will look for the four-game sweep over the Pirates. Saturday's action takes place on the Coyotes' home field in Monroeville, Ala. at 12:00 p.m. CT.Â
