Softball Splits ACCC Doubleheader with Rival Reid State

Coyotes Use Walk-Off in Game One to Force Split with Lions

MONROEVILLE, Ala. - The ACCC portion of the 2026 season is officially underway for the Coastal Alabama - North Softball team, as the Coyotes split a home doubleheader against rival Reid State Tech (Ala.) on Thursday, Feb. 26 in Monroeville. The 'Yotes used an impressive walk-off win in comeback fashion to begin Thursday's action, snapping a 10-game losing skid in the process, while falling to the Lions by one run in the nightcap.

The overall record moves to 2-15 on the season for Coastal - North, with the ACCC record beginning at 1-1.

How It Happened

Coastal Alabama - North struck first in the opener, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. Reid State answered in the second, capitalizing on opportunities to score four runs and move in front, 4-1. The Coyotes steadily chipped away, tying the contest at 4-4 with a run in the fourth inning. The Lions responded once again in the fifth, reclaiming a 5-4 advantage.

Trailing in the bottom of the seventh, Coastal - North used a Reid State miscue to even the score at 5-5 and force extra innings.

Both teams were held scoreless through the eighth and ninth frames before Reid State took advantage of another Coyote error in the top of the 10th to move ahead, 6-5. Coastal answered in dramatic fashion in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Alissa Holmes delivered a clutch RBI single to center field, scoring Jakayla Williams—who had reached earlier on a single—to extend the game.

The Coyotes completed the comeback in the 11th inning. After working the bases into scoring position, freshman Gracie Nelson lined a walk-off single to right field, allowing Makinze Rabon to cross the plate with the winning run and secure the 11-inning victory.

Coastal - North outhit Reid State 12-9 in game one, with five players tallying two hits each. Destiny Holmes reached base four times, finishing 2-for-4 with two walks and two RBIs. Nelson also recorded two hits and drove in a pair, while Madison Freeman added an RBI. Despite the win, both teams battled defensive struggles, combining for 12 errors in the contest. Notably, both Coyote victories over Reid State this season have come in walk-off fashion.

Game two followed a similar script as a tightly contested matchup. Reid State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Coastal responded with two runs in the bottom half to cut into the deficit. The Coyotes evened the score at 3-3 in the fourth inning, and the game remained deadlocked heading into the seventh.

In the final frame, the Lions pushed across three runs to take control. Coastal mounted a late rally in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice and bringing the tying run to base, but a pop-out ended the comeback attempt and sealed the 6-5 loss.

Coastal - North once again outhit Reid State, 6-5, in the nightcap. However, five costly errors proved pivotal, as none of the Lions' runs were earned in the contest. Jakayla Williams paced the team with two RBIs in the loss.

Doubleheader in Evergreen Postponed

The two teams were scheduled to continue their four-game conference series over the weekend with a doubleheader in Evergreen, Ala., but inclement weather forced the postponement of those contests. Coastal - North and Reid State will now resume the series on Monday, March 2, with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m. CT in Evergreen.
