Box Score 2 MERIDIAN, Miss. - Coastal Alabama - North Softball, led by seventh-year head coach Christa Childress Dupont, opened the 2026 season on Wednesday, Jan. 28, facing Meridian Community College (Miss.) in a non-conference doubleheader on the road. The Eagles of Meridian managed a sweep over the Coyotes to begin the year, winning a competitive game one 8-3 before run-ruling Coastal - North 8-0 in six innings during the nightcap.
Coastal - North opens the 2026 campaign 0-2 with several home games on the horizon.
How It Happened
In game one, both teams traded runs early, with Coastal - North scoring a run in the opening frame. Meridian answered in the bottom half of the first with a pair of runs, adding two more in the second inning. After three innings, the Eagles led the 'Yotes 5-3, plating three more insurance runs throughout the latter part of the game to seal the win.
Coastal - North finished with six hits, led by second-year Coyote Jakayla Williams who ended game one 3-for-4 with a double at the plate in the opener. Freshman Sakari Frails recorded two hits, including a double, in her first collegiate game, while also working a walk, and Gracie Nelson, also making her collegiate debut, managed a 1-for-2 line, driving in one and adding a walk. Coastal - North struck out just five times in the game one defeat, walking six times and committing three errors defensively.
In game two, it was all Meridian as the Eagles managed eight runs in six innings while holding Coastal - North to just two hits in the ballgame. Delana Peters and Synya Edwards came away with a hit each across the nightcap, with Edwards recording her first collegiate double and stolen base. In 21 total plate appearances, the Coyotes struck out 10 times in game two. Meanwhile, Meridian's scoring came during two four-run innings across the third and sixth innings.
Home Games Next
After a cancellation of the Mardi Gras Invitational this upcoming weekend, the Coyotes are now set to open the home portion of the 2026 schedule next week in Monroeville, Ala. Coastal - North will host John A. Logan College (Ill.) and Southern Union State (Ala.) in a doubleheader set for Tuesday, Feb. 3 beginning at 11:00 a.m. CT. Coastal - North's second game that day is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT.
