MARION, Ala. - After splitting a home doubleheader with Marion Military (Ala.) two days prior, the Coastal Alabama North Softball team dropped both games of a road DH over the weekend with the Tigers, falling 10-2 and 15-7 on Saturday, April 5. The two losses drops the overall record on the season to 7-37.
How It Happened
The Tigers needed just five innings to defeat Coastal North in game one on Saturday, scoring at the least one run in every inning. The Coyotes trailed 10-0 entering the fifth, but sparked a small rally with two runs in the frame. However, the strong offensive game for MMI was too much and the game was called early due the the NJCAA run rule.
Coastal North only collected four hits in the five-inning defeat, with the bottom of the order of Jade Allen and Delana Peters combining to finish 2-for-4 at the plate with both runs driven in. Peters added a walk. Jakayla Williams and Reanna Johnson came up with the Coyotes' other two hits in the game.Â
In the pitcher's circle, Madison Favre pitched the entire game, allowing eight hits and 10 runs. However, defensive miscues hurt the Coyotes in the game as just two runs were earned against Favre. The Coastal North defense committed five costly errors in the loss.Â
Later in game two, both offenses put runs on the board as Marion Military ran away with the game late. MMI led 10-4 after three innings, but saw the Coyotes make things interesting with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. However, the Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pick up the second consecutive run-rule win over Coastal North.Â
Madison Favre finished 1-for-2 as a late entrant in the game, adding a team-high two RBIs to her performance. Meanwhile, Reanna Johnson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Isabella Griggs went 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored. Near the bottom of the order, Jade Allen came away with two hits and two runs scored.
Both teams combined for seven errors in the game as only seven of the 15 runs MMI scored were charged as earned runs against the Coastal North pitching staff. MMI out-hit the Coyotes 10-9 in game two.
Back Home on Thursday
The Coyotes are set to return home to Monroeville, Ala. on Thursday, April 10, hosting a conference doubleheader against Reid State Tech (Ala.) at 1:00 p.m. CT.
