2025 Season Comes to an End Following Two Road Games Over the Weekend

SUMITON, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama North Softball team saw the 2025 season come to a close over the weekend following two games played on the road against Bevill State (Ala.) on Saturday, April 26. Despite splitting a doubleheader in Monroeville, Ala. two days prior, the Coyotes dropped both games on Saturday to officially end the campaign with a 12-44 overall record and 10-26 record in the ACCC. Coastal North had been eliminated from postseason play one week prior to Saturday's finale.

How It Happened

Saturday's action began with Bevill State grabbing a 14-2 victory in run-rule fashion over Coastal North, with the Bears relying on a seven-run first inning to set the tone of the game. Bevill State pushed across four more runs in the second inning, while scoring three in the third. Coastal North began a late comeback in the top of the fifth frame with two runs scored, but the deficit was too large in the end and the game was called early. Bevill State managed to out-hit Coastal North 10-6 in the game one victory.

For Coastal North, Mary Grace Whatley led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Reanna Johnson, Alissa Holmes, Jordan Avera, and Delana Peters all collected one hit each. Holmes recorded the Coyotes' lone walk in the losing effort. From the pitcher's circle, starter Madison Favre was only able to record two outs before Coastal North Head Coach Christa Childress Dupont went to the bullpen. Lydia Brewer finished the remaining 3 1/3 innings from out of the 'pen as 12 of the 14 runs Bevill State scored finished as earned runs against the Coyotes' pitching staff.

In the season finale later on Saturday, Coastal North fought but came up short against the Bears. Bevill State won game two 5-2, relying on a three-run third inning as the difference maker. Coastal North trailed 4-0 entering the fifth, but finally hit the scoreboard with a run in the top of the frame. The Coyotes pushed across an additional run in the top of the seventh and out-hit the Bears in game two 8-7 despite the loss.

Jakayla Williams finished 3-for-4 at the plate in game two, driving in both Coastal North runs. Jordan Avera also finished 2-for-3 at the dish, while Mary Grace Whatley and Lydia Brewer both finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. Whatley added a walk to her batting line. From the circle, Reanna Johnson closed out her Coastal North career with six innings of work, allowing five runs (four earned). Johnson walked three and struck out two during her complete game performance from the rubber.
