BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama North Softball team traveled to Bay Minette, Ala. for a non-conference doubleheader with counterpart Coastal Alabama South on Tuesday, March 25, with the South Coyotes prevailing with two wins. Coastal North fell 3-2 in a close game to begin action on warm Tuesday afternoon, while dropping a 15-0 game in run-rule fashion in game two.
Coastal North falls to 6-30 on the season following the two losses. Meanwhile for the Coyotes down south, the overall record improves to 24-14 during the 2025 campaign.
The Highlights
Across game one, Coastal North was out-hit 11-5 to Coastal South, but fell short by just one run. Coastal South hit the scoreboard first with a single run in the first inning before taking a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Coastal North then tied the game late with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning following defensive miscues. However, Coastal South responded and pushed across the go-ahead and eventual winning run in the bottom half of the sixth to secure the game one victory.
Destiny Holmes finished 1-for-4 in game one, while Jordan Avera finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. Reanna Johnson led the team with a 1-for-3 performance at the plate, recording both of Coastal North's RBIs in the game one defeat. In the pitcher's circle, Madison Favre tossed 5 1/3 innings, while Lydia Brewer closed out the game with 0.2 hitless innings.
In game two, the Coastal South offense exploded for 15 runs off 15 hits, ending the game after five innings. Seven runs were scored across both the first and seconds frames, with Coastal South scoring the 15th run of the game in the fourth. Coastal North was held scoreless and recorded just two hits in the defeat.
Mary Grace Whatley finished 1-for-3 at the plate, with Jordan Avera notching a 1-for-2 batting line. Alissa Holmes worked two bases-on-balls in both of her plate appearances. On the rubber, Reanna Johnson was only able to record one out before Coastal South tallied seven runs in the first. Lydia Brewer took over in the first inning and finished with 1 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs, three earned. Jordan Avera closed out the game with two innings, allowing only three hits and one run. Nine of the 15 runs allowed were earned runs after the Coastal North defense committed three errors.
Back in Action on Wednesday
Following the doubleheader against Coastal South, the Coyotes of Coastal North will return to action on Wednesday, March 26 with a road doubleheader at Enterprise State (Ala.). Wednesday's DH is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT in Enterprise, Ala. and begins a stretch for four-straight games against the Boll Weevils.
