MONROEVILLE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama North Softball team managed a doubleheader split with Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (Ala.) on Tuesday afternoon, March 18, falling 8-2 in extra innings to begin action, while taking game two, 10-5. The Coyotes advanced the overall record on the season to 4-26 following Tuesday's split as the program continues to develop young talent while working through a challenging season. Additionally, Coastal North now sits with a 2-10 ACCC record.
Inside the Box Scores
In game one, LBW managed nine hits compared to the Coyotes' four. However, Coastal North managed a 2-1 lead late entering the seventh inning. In the seventh, LBW tied the game with a single run and forced extra innings where the Saints' bats came alive. LBW pushed across six runs alone in the top of the eighth inning, eventually taking game one, 8-2.
Coastal North starting pitcher Madison Favre pitched all eight innings during Tuesday's first game, with four of the eight runs scored being earned runs. She struck out three Saints and finished 1-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. All four of Coastal North's hits went down as singles, with the Coyotes recording three walks in the loss. Two walks came from Alissa Holmes.
In the second game on Tuesday afternoon, Coastal North bounced back and opened the game with a two-run first inning. The Coyotes then put together a monster third where the team added six runs alone in the frame. One inning later, Coastal North scored two more runs to take a 10-3 lead to the backend of the game.
In the seventh and final inning, LBW began to rally, capitalizing on errors in the process. LBW saw the first five batters reach to begin the inning, with two runners scoring. However, a big double play for the Coyotes halted the rally and Coastal North escaped with a 10-5 victory.Â
Jordan Avera finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and a run scored, while Jade Allen went 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored. Madison Freeman joined Avera with two RBIs in the win, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate. Starting pitcher Lydia Brewer pitched only two innings in game two, with reliever Reanna Johnson throwing five innings from out of the bullpen to pick up the win. Johnson also picked up an RBI at the plate.
What's Ahead
Coming off the win in game two against LBW, the Coyotes will look to ride momentum towards the next games on the schedule, coming on Thursday, March 20 at home. Coastal North is scheduled to host Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) on Thursday, with the conference doubleheader being set for 1:00 p.m. CT in Monroeville, Ala.
