THE COOPER CENTER | MONROEVILLE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Women's Basketball collected the team's second-straight victory on Tuesday, Nov. 11, earning a hard-fought 72-70 win over Pensacola Christian College (Fla.) at the Cooper Center on the Monroeville campus. The 22nd-ranked Coyotes improved to 2-2Â on the young season behind a consistent offensive effort and key defensive stops down the stretch.
Fourth Quarter Comeback Secures W
After opening Tuesday's game with a 17-12 advantage through the first quarter, Coastal - North took a 35-32 lead to halftime following Pensacola Christian's 20-18 run in the second. The Coyotes then allowed 27 third-quarter points to the Eagles to trail 59-53 entering the final 10 minutes of regulation. Thanks to a steady fourth quarter which saw Coastal - North outscore the visitors 19-11, the Yotes came away with the two-point victory and earn the team's second consecutive win.Â
Joy Minnifield led the way with 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists from off head coach Mandee Armstrong's bench, while starters Tamira Smalls and Lailah Hill tallied 14 points each to help guide the Coyotes to victory. Smalls added eight rebounds and three assists, while Hill notched seven rebounds.
Saije Taylor also provided a strong presence offensively with 10 points and five rebounds, and Starr Pittman chipped in eight points off the bench, including a key three-pointer late in the game. Jamonica Miller and Ariel Gilchrist anchored the defense, combining for 11 rebounds and eight assists between them. As a team, the Coyotes shot 40.5% from the field, collecting 43 rebounds and 20 assists while forcing 10 steals.
Back on the Road Saturday
Coastal Alabama - North will look to build on the momentum as the Coyotes prepare for their next matchup on the road later this weekend, coming against Baton Rouge Community College (La.) on Saturday, Nov. 15. Saturday's matchup is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT and will be played in Baton Rouge, La.Â
