Box Score ANDALUSIA, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Women's Basketball came up just short on the road Monday evening, Jan. 5, falling 89-87 to Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (Ala.) in a tightly contested conference matchup to open the second half of the 2025-26 season. Despite a three-point halftime lead for the Coyotes, Coastal - North could not overcome a strong second half from LBW and ultimately fell by two points.
The overall record on the season falls to 6-10, while the ACCC record moves back to .500 at 2-2.
How It Happened
The Coyotes battled throughout and trailed by just one point at the end of the first quarter before taking a slim 44-41 lead into halftime. A strong third quarter by the home team proved to be the difference, as LBW edged Coastal - North 25-19 in the period and held on down the stretch.
Ariel Gilchrist led Coastal Alabama - North with a game-high 22 points while adding a double-double effort with 14 rebounds, along with seven assists and five steals. Saije Taylor followed with 19 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, collecting a team-best nine offensive rebounds in the loss. Meanwhile, Starr Pittman chipped in 13 points off the bench and Jamonica Miller contributed 10 points and four assists.
The Coyotes recorded 53 rebounds in the game and totaled 21 assists on 38 made field goals, shooting 36.9% from the field as a team. However, shooting woes at the free-throw line proved costly, as the 'Yotes converted just 11-of-29 attempts (37.9%) from the stripe.
Despite forcing turnovers and generating multiple second-chance opportunities, Coastal - North was unable to overcome the narrow margin late and saw its comeback attempt fall short in the final minutes.
Big Game Ahead at the Cooper Center
The Coyotes will look to bounce back as they continue conference play later this week, hosting No. 23 Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) at the Cooper Center in Monroeville, Ala. on Thursday, Jan. 8. Thursday's game is set for 5:00 p.m. CT as the Coyotes look to upset the 23rd-ranked team in the NJCAA Division II.
