Yotes Struggle with Turnovers
Following a low-scoring first quarter on Monday night which saw Coastal - North trail 13-10, the Eagles of Meridian came alive in the second quarter, scoring 29 points alone in the frame while holding the Yotes to just 15 points. Trailing 42-25 at halftime after the second quarter was filled with miscues, including giving the ball away 11 times in that period alone, the Coyotes did manage to show some fight after the break, cutting into the deficit behind improved shooting. However, every run was countered by another stretch of turnovers, which resulted in points for the visiting club.
The Coyotes turned the ball over 31 times against Meridian on Monday, marking the fifth time this season Coastal - North has recorded 30 or more turnovers in a contest. The giveaways repeatedly halted offensive momentum and led to easy scoring opportunities for the Eagles. Despite outscoring the visitors 16-15 in the third quarter and 22-16 in the fourth quarter, and battling on the glass with a 44-rebound performance, the big second quarter for Meridian proved to be the difference maker which eventually led to a 10-point defeat for the home Coyotes.Â
Joy Minnifield led Coastal Alabama - North with 16 points in the loss, knocking down three three-pointers in the second half and adding eight assists and two steals. Saije Taylor added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Ariel Gilchrist and Jamonica Miller scored eight and seven points, respectively. Samiya Clayton chipped in seven points with two made threes in the third quarter.
