THE COOPER CENTER | MONROEVILLE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - North Women's Basketball team picked up its second consecutive victory at home over the weekend, hosting Southern Union State (Ala.) for a non-conference meeting on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 6. The Coyotes defeated the Bison 68-59 on Saturday, improving the overall record to 5-7 with two more home games on the horizon.
The Highlights
Coastal - North opened Saturday's action with a 13-8 advantage after the first quarter, but saw Southern Union State outscore the Yotes 17-16 in the second quarter to cut the lead down to four at halftime. Coastal - North went to the break with a 29-25 lead. In the second half, both teams scored 16 points a piece in the third frame, but the Coyotes ran away with the game with a big 23-point fourth quarter to seal the victory.Â
The Yotes finished Saturday with a 33.8 team shooting percentage, while going 18-for-33 at the free throw line. Lailah Hill paced the offense with 17 points, adding four rebounds and two steals, while Ariel Gilchrist collected a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Gilchrist added three steals and two assists, and has scored in double figures in four-straight games. Â
Other contributors included Saije Taylor, who managed nine points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while Starr Pittman totaled seven points and three boards from off the bench. Ashely Brach and Joy Minnifield joined Pittman with notable bench performances with six points each.Â
The team finished the win with 49 total rebounds, 10 assists, and 14 steals. However, the Yotes gave the ball away 33 times to keep Southern Union State within striking distance.Â
Home Non-Conference Game to Start the Week
Following two consecutive wins at home, the Coyotes are back in action at the Cooper Center on Monday evening, Dec. 8, hosting Meridian Community College (Miss.) at 5:30 p.m. CT. The Yotes look to make it three wins in a row as Coastal - North looks to get closer to being .500 on the season. Monday's game will be aired live on JockJive.com.
