WADLEY, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Women's Basketball battled until the final buzzer on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 29, but a slow start and a decisive third quarter proved costly in a 69-63 road loss to Southern Union State (Ala.). The loss is the Coyotes' third consecutive as the overall record falls to 3-6 on the young season.
How It Happened;Â Gilchrist Posts 24-Point Double-Double
The Coyotes trailed 22-13 after the opening period and faced a 40-32 deficit at halftime. Southern Union then created separation in the third quarter, outscoring Coastal - North 22-15 to push the margin to 62-47 heading into the final frame. The Coyotes mounted a late surge with a 16-7 fourth-quarter advantage but were unable to close the gap and eventually fell to the Bison.
Despite the defeat, Ariel Gilchrist delivered a standout performance, finishing with a season-high 24 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while adding four assists and six steals. She shot 9-of-27 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line in her best performance of the 2025-26 campaign. Saije Taylor followed with 14 points and seven rebounds (four offensive), and finished 6-of-9 at the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Joy Minnifield provided an additional spark with eight points, four assists, and four steals.
Coastal - North collected 40 rebounds in the loss, including 15 offensive boards. However, the Coyotes were hindered by 28 turnovers and finished 24-of-72 (33.3%) from the field and 0-of-5 from beyond the arc. The Yotes did manage to shoot an efficient 75% (15-of-20) at the free-throw line.
Road Tests Continues Tuesday
Coastal Alabama - North Women's Basketball will look to get back into the win column in the next outing on the schedule as the Coyotes continue non-conference play with a road game against Pensacola Christian College (Fla.) on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Tuesday's game is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and is the second of two regular season meetings between the two teams. The Coyotes defeated PCC 72-70 back on Nov. 11.
