Box Score 2 BREWTON, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Baseball battled to a split in ACCC Division II play on Thursday, Apr. 9, dropping a hard-fought extra-inning opener before bouncing back with a convincing win in game two against Central Alabama Community College.
With the split, the Coyotes move to 27-16 overall and 17-9 in conference play, good for a tie for second place in the current ACCC Division II standings.
Yotes Battle Back
Coastal - North came out swinging in game one but ultimately fell 6-4 in eight innings in a tightly contested matchup with Central Alabama. The Coyotes led 4-3 entering the final inning, but Central Alabama managed to tie the game with a run in the seventh to force extra innings. In extras, the Trojans relied on a two-run eighth frame to steal the game from Coastal.
Despite the tough loss, Reni Mason led the offensive charge with a standout 3-for-4 performance, collecting a double and a triple while driving in two runs and scoring once. Sam Guth added two hits and an RBI, while Xavier Brown reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. On the mound, Kieran Kostanoski delivered a strong outing, working 5.2 innings while allowing just three hits and three runs. The southpaw struck out nine but issued five walks in a no-decision effort as the 'Yotes were edged in extras. Kostanoski continues to lead the NJCAA Division II in strikeouts.
Later on Thursday, Coastal responded in a big way in game two, securing a 10-2 victory behind a dominant complete game performance from TJ Hauser. Hauser scattered five hits across seven innings, allowing just two unearned runs while walking two and striking out four to earn the win.
The Coyotes' offense was efficient and disciplined, drawing seven walks while striking out just three times. Sam Guth continued his strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Alex Martin drove in two runs, while Cooper Cantrell and Peyton Martin each added two RBIs to help power the offense. Xavier Brown once again contributed, finishing 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. The Coyotes tallied nine hits as an offense in the game two win.
Rematch at Central
Coastal Alabama - North and Central Alabama will meet again on Saturday, Apr. 11 for another conference doubleheader in Alexander City, Ala., with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. CT.
