BREWTON, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Baseball put together another dominant, all-around performance over the weekend, sweeping a four-game ACCC series against Marion Military Institute (Ala.) from Apr. 2-4. The sweep marks the second time this season the Coyotes have taken all four games in a conference series, extending their current winning streak to six games in the process. Coastal - North has now won 15 of its last 18 contests, a surge that has vaulted the Coyotes into a tie for second place in the current ACCC Division II standings.
With the four-game sweep, Coastal - North Baseball improves to 26-15 overall and 16-8 in conference play, continuing to establish itself as one of the hottest teams in the league heading into the final month of the regular season.
Coyotes Break Out the Brooms
The series opened Thursday in Marion, Ala. where Coastal - North leaned on strong pitching and timely hitting to secure a 4-1 victory in game one. Trailing early, the Coyotes broke through with a decisive three-run fourth inning to take control, then added an insurance run in the seventh to seal the win.
Kieran Kostanoski turned in a dominant performance on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out nine. The left-hander continues to lead all of NJCAA Division II with 73 strikeouts this season and owns a 2.95 ERA, currently third-best in the ACCC. Offensively, Reni Mason provided the spark, launching a two-run home run in the fourth before adding an RBI single later in the game. Sam Guth also went deep, hitting a home run in the same inning as Mason to help power the Coyotes.
Coastal carried that momentum into game two, where the offense found another gear in a 9-3 victory to complete the road sweep. The Coyotes' lineup delivered from top to bottom, with eight of nine starters recording at least one hit in a 15-hit performance.
Guth continued his strong day at the plate with two RBIs, while Cooper Cantrell turned in a perfect 3-for-3 outing that included a triple and a run scored. Alex Martin added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBIs, and Jesse Lord went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI to pace the attack. On the mound, TJ Hauser provided a steady start, tossing 5.2 innings while allowing just two earned runs on four hits. Andrew Benson closed things out effectively, striking out two over 1.1 hitless innings of relief.
Saturday's doubleheader in Brewton brought a dramatic shift in tone, beginning with a back-and-forth battle in game three that turned into an instant classic. The Coyotes and Tigers traded punches throughout, with neither side able to create separation. Marion Military mounted multiple rallies, but Coastal consistently responded to keep the game within reach. The contest ultimately stretched into the 11th inning, where the Coyotes delivered in the clutch. With runners in scoring position, Reni Mason came through with the biggest swing of the weekend, driving a walk-off two-run double to lift Coastal to a 10-9 victory. The game-winning hit secured the series victory and sent the Coyotes into the finale with all the momentum.
Mason finished with the game-winning knock and drew two walks, while Jesse Lord led the offense with three hits, including a home run. Lord reached base five times in the game, adding two walks to his standout performance. On the mound, Jordan Ard was instrumental out of the bullpen, tossing 3.2 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief to keep Coastal in position for the late-game heroics.
Fueled by the emotional win earlier in the day, Coastal erupted in the series finale with its most explosive offensive showing of the season. The Coyotes exploded for 15 runs in the first inning alone, overwhelming MMI from the outset and batting around multiple times in the frame. Eventually, Coastal never looked back, cruising to a 22-7 victory in five innings to complete the sweep. The 22 runs matched a season-high and highlighted the depth and firepower throughout the lineup.
Reni Mason capped off a stellar series with four RBIs in the finale, including a three-run home run. Alex Phillips, Cooper Cantrell, and Ethan Pardue each added home runs of their own, while Alex Martin drove in three runs with a pair of doubles. Cantrell led the way with five RBIs in the game, pacing a Coyotes offense that continued to produce at a high level.
With contributions across the board, includinng dominant pitching, timely hitting, and explosive offense, Coastal Alabama - North continues to build momentum at the right time. Now tied for second in the ACCC Division II standings, the Coyotes have positioned themselves firmly in the postseason race as they look to carry their hot streak into the final few weeks of the regular season.
What's Ahead
With momentum firmly on their side, Coastal Alabama - North Baseball will look to carry its recent success into the next ACCC series on the schedule, set to begin at home in Brewton, Ala. on Thursday, Apr. 9. The Coyotes will host Central Alabama Community College for a doubleheader on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT. Thursday's DH will be aired live on JockJive.com.
The series will then shift to Alexander City, Ala. on Saturday, Apr. 11 for two games. Central Alabama currently sits near the bottom of the current ACCC Division II standings.
