MOBILE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Baseball delivered a strong showing at home before running into tough luck on the road, ultimately splitting a four-game ACCC Division II weekend series with Bishop State (Ala.) on April 16 and 18.
The Coyotes swept Thursday's home doubleheader in Brewton, Ala. before dropping both contests in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday, moving to 30-19 overall and 20-12 in conference play. Coastal - North currently sits in third place in the ACCC Division II standings with one four-game series remaining before the ACCC Division II Baseball Championship Tournament, set for April 29 - May 2 at Paterson Field & Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.
Game One - Coastal Alabama 8, Bishop State 2
The Coyotes opened the series in dominant fashion, riding an explosive performance at the plate and a strong start on the mound to an 8-2 victory.
Coastal's top of the order set the tone early, as the 1-through-4 hitters combined to go 9-for-12 with six RBIs. Sam Guth led the charge with a 3-for-4 outing that included a home run, double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Peyton Martin added two hits, including a double, while driving in a run and scoring twice. Jesse Lord and Reni Mason also contributed multi-hit efforts, each tallying two RBIs or runs scored.
On the mound, Kieran Kostanoski delivered five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven to earn the win.
Game Two - Coastal Alabama 11, Bishop State 8
Coastal's offense stayed red-hot in game two, scoring in every inning en route to an 11-8 win and a doubleheader sweep.
The Coyotes racked up 12 hits, highlighted by Peyton Martin's standout performance. Martin went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Reni Mason paced the lineup with three hits and two runs, while Tucker Carlos added a pair of hits, including a double.
Sam Guth contributed an RBI and crossed the plate twice as Coastal maintained constant pressure on Bishop State pitching.
Jordan Ard shut the door in the late innings, tossing a scoreless frame to secure the save and complete the sweep in Brewton.
Game Three - Bishop State 11, Coastal Alabama 6
The series shifted to Mobile on Saturday, where Bishop State responded with an 11-6 win in game three.
Despite the loss, the Coyotes collected several solid individual performances. Sam Guth continued his productive series with two hits, including a double, while Tucker Carlos added two hits of his own. Cooper Cantrell and Zoyle Gemar each drove in runs, with Cantrell also doubling.
Out of the bullpen, Charles Baker provided a bright spot, tossing two hitless innings without allowing a run.
Game Four - Bishop State 7, Coastal Alabama 6
In the series finale, Coastal led 6-3 entering the sixth inning, but eventually fell in a 7-6 heartbreaker after the Wildcats pushed across four runs to grab a late lead over the Coyotes.
Reni Mason led the offensive effort with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double, RBI, run scored, and a walk. Sam Guth added two hits and an RBI, while Jesse Lord and Cooper Cantrell each doubled. Xavier Brown also contributed with an RBI and a run scored.
Despite holding the lead late, Coastal - North was unable to regain momentum after the decisive sixth inning.
Regular Season Finale Ahead
With the regular season winding down, Coastal Alabama - North has one final four-game conference series remaining before postseason play begins. The Coyotes will host Lurleen B. Wallace (Ala.) for a Wednesday matinee doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. CT before traveling to Andalusia, Ala. on Friday, Apr. 24 for a doubleheader at LBW to close out the regular season schedule.
The Coyotes will look to build on their 30-win campaign and solidify their positioning for the ACCC Division II Baseball Championship Tournament, scheduled for April 29 through May 2 in Montgomery, Ala.
