MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Baseball wasted no time putting its mark on the 2026 season, erupting for 20 runs in a commanding victory over Faulkner University (JV) on the road. The win marks the first of the season for the Coyotes and the first-career victory for Head Coach Matt Collins at the helm of the program.
Offense Explodes; Yotes Win 20-2
The Coyotes' offense was relentless from the opening inning, setting the tone of the game with a five-run first before eventually finishing with 17 hits and 14 RBIs in the five-inning shortened contest. Coastal - North showcased its depth throughout the lineup, with multiple players turning in multi-hit performances.
Alex Martin led the charge, going 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Sam Guth delivered the biggest swing of the day, blasting a home run and driving in three runs while finishing 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Zoyle Gemar and Cooper Cantrell each added two hits, while Cantrell drove in a run and scored twice.
Tucker Carlos chipped in two RBIs, Reni Mason and Alex Phillips each drove in a run, and Peyton Martin added an RBI of his own. The Coyotes were aggressive on the basepaths, swiping eight stolen bases, including two from Xaiver Brown and two from Alex Martin.
On the mound, Harrison Hicks earned the win in his first start of the season, tossing 3.0 innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out three. Juan Washington and Jude Weller combined for two scoreless innings in relief, with Weller striking out two to close the door.
Defensively, the Coyotes turned a double play behind the middle infield combination of Brown and Tucker Carlos to help limit Faulkner's scoring opportunities.
After a challenging opening day against No. 14 Jones College (Miss.), Coastal Alabama -Â North responded in emphatic fashion, giving Matt Collins his first win and setting the tone for the season ahead.
Back Home for Four-Game Set
The Yotes, now 1-2 on the season, will return to action next weekend for a four-game series against Marian University - Ancilla (Ind.) beginning on Friday, Feb. 6 at 11:30 a.m. CT. Prior to the start of Friday's action, Coastal Alabama Community College with hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand new baseball stadium on the Brewton, Ala. campus.
