BREWTON, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama North Baseball team came away with a pair of wins over Marion Military (Ala.) on Saturday, April 5, sweeping the Tigers for the second time in three days. Coastal North and MMI met for a doubleheader in Marion, Ala. on Thursday, April 3, which saw the Coyotes score wins in both games.
On Saturday, the Yotes continued to ride momentum against MMI and won 7-6 in walk-off fashion in game one and 12-2 in a six-inning game two. Coastal North's overall record improves to 20-21 on the year and 14-14 in the ACCC after taking all four games against Marion Military.
The Highlights
The Coyotes walked off the Tigers in game one on Saturday, with Drew Jarrell playing hero with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Coyotes trailed MMI 6-4 after four innings, but managed to push across two runs in the fifth to tie the game after Jarrell drove in two off a double to center field. He finished the win 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and three important RBIs.
Pace Young finished 2-for-3 with a two-RBI game, scoring a run, and Broox Hart collected two hits and two runs scored in four at-bats. Hart crossed the plate as the winning run in the seventh following Jarrell's game-winning knock. In total, Coastal North managed 10 hits as a team.
On the bump, TJ Hauser and Kyle Liner combined to pitch three scoreless innings from out of the bullpen to wrap up the game after Wyatt Tharpe tossed four innings as the starter. Liner earned the win on the rubber, allowing just one hit in two innings of work, adding two strikeouts.Â
Riding the high of an exciting walk-off in game one, the Coyotes rolled in game two, earning a 10-run win in six innings. The game was tied 2-2 entering the fifth inning, but the Yotes pushed across two runs in the bottom half of the fifth to take the lead for good. The next inning, Coastal North's offense exploded for eight runs and the game was called early due to the NJCAA run rule.
Will Smith led the offense with three RBIs in game two, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk. All three of Smith's runs came following a three-run homer in the sixth. Elijah Guilliams joined Smith with a homer in the win, finishing 1-for-2 with his solo jack. On the mound, Ethan McAnally earned the win after five strong innings as the starter. McAnally allowed four hits, two unearned runs, and struck out three.Â
What's Ahead
The Coyotes are scheduled to face Reid State Tech (Ala.) next on the schedule, coming on Thursday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
