BREWTON, Ala. - The Coyotes of Coastal Alabama North Baseball picked up a conference sweep over Reid State Tech (Ala.) on Thursday afternoon, April 10, defeating the Lions 12-2 in a run-rule shortened game to begin the day before winning 9-5 across game two. The two victories propels the overall record back over .500 for Coastal North, with the Coyotes now sitting at 22-21 on the season and holding a 16-14 record in the ACCC.
The doubleheader begins a four-game weekend series with Reid State in Brewton, Ala., with Coastal North playing as the visiting team on the scoreboard on Thursday. The Yotes will be the home team in both games of Saturday's doubleheader to wrap up the series, riding a six-game winning streak.
Offense Sparks in Thursday Showing
The Coyotes were dominant in game one against Reid State, out-hitting the Lions 11-4 to claim a 12-2 win in five innings. Coastal North immediately opened the game with two runs in the first inning, while adding a five-run third and four-run fourth to put the game out of reach.Â
Luis Vicente recorded five RBIs in the win, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Vicente's big hit in the game came via a grand slam in the top of fourth inning. Behind Vicente, six other Coyotes recorded one RBI each, while Jeremiah Gary, Pace Young, and Broox Hart joined with two hits a piece. On the mound, Jay Davis tossed a complete game to earn the win, allowing only two runs off four hits. He struck out two Lions.
In game two, Coastal North's offense continued to hit, once again finishing with 11 team hits in a 9-5 win. After four innings, Coastal North led 8-1, with the Coyotes pushing across five runs alone in the top of the fourth inning. However, Reid State answered with a four-run fifth to close the deficit. In the top of the seventh, the Coyotes added an insurance run and eventually closed out the frame and the game with a scoreless seventh to secure the victory.
Luis Vicente continued his strong performance at the plate on Thursday, picking up two more hits and two more RBIs. He finished Thursday's doubleheader 4-for-7 at the dish with seven total RBIs. Drew Jarrell also notched a pair of RBIs in game two, finishing 1-for-2 with a homer and run scored, while leadoff batter Jeremiah Gary managed two hits with a homer in a 2-for-4 performance.Â
Harrison Hicks was awarded the start and picked up the win after pitching four innings, allowing three runs. Hicks struck out four. Joey Ervin and Kyle Liner closed out the game from out of the bullpen for the Coyotes, with Liner finishing the final two innings without giving up a hit or a run.Â
Back for Two on Saturday
The two teams are set to square off for an additional doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, April 12 in Brewton, scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT. Saturday's DH will be broadcasted live on JockJive Sports.
