ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama North Baseball team managed a doubleheader split with Central Alabama on Thursday afternoon, March 6, dropping game one 3-2 to the Trojans, while responding with a big 14-10 victory in a high-scoring game two.
Following the two games, the Coyotes are 9-13 on the year and 4-6 in the ACCC. Both Coastal North and Central Alabama are scheduled to meet again on Friday, March 7 in Brewton, Ala. for an additional doubleheader. Friday's doubleheader in Brewton is set for 12:00 p.m. CT and will be aired live HERE.
Thursday Highlights
Coastal North managed eight hits in the game one defeat to Central Alabama to begin action on Thursday, with center fielder Jeremiah Gary leading the way with a 3-for-4 batting line at the plate. Gary was followed by Ethan McAnally who finished 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Overall, the Coyotes worked just one walk across the seven innings played, while striking out nine times as a team and leaving 11 runners left on base. On the mound, Jay Davis threw six complete innings, giving up two earned runs and six hits. He struck out four batters.Â
In game two, Coastal North's offense sparked with 14 runs off 11 hits. Central Alabama led 4-2 after three innings, but the Coyotes scored four runs in the fifth, three in the seventh, and four more runs in the ninth to grab the lead for good.Â
Elijah Guilliams led the Coyotes with three hits, recording one RBI in the winning effort, while Jeremiah Gary finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Both of Gary's hits went for doubles against the Trojans. Coastal North's top five batters in the lineup combined for seven hits and six RBIs in the victory. Meanwhile, both Blake Smith and Will Smith each drove in two runs near the bottom of the lineup, with both players collecting one hit.
On the rubber, Harrison Hicks led the bullpen game for the Coyotes, tossing four innings of relief while giving up five hits and working four strikeouts. Hicks was charged with four unearned runs following Coyote errors. Noah Morgan eventually earned the win on the mound with 2 1/3 strong innings, allowing just one hit and no runs.Â
