MOBILE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama North Baseball team came away with a non-divisional win over Spring Hill College (Ala.) on Tuesday night, March 18, scoring an 8-7 victory in the process. The Coyotes fell behind early against the Badgers, but relied on consistent scoring from the middle innings through the back half of Tuesday's contest.
With the win, Coastal North Baseball improves to 13-16 overall on the year.
Yotes Survive Battle Against Badgers
Spring Hill opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning on Tuesday night, with Coastal Alabama North not hitting the scoreboard until the third. After four innings, the game was tied 3-3, but saw the Coyotes grab the lead with three additional runs across the sixth and seventh innings. For good measure, the Coyotes added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth to take an 8-3 lead over the Badgers.
Spring Hill rallied late against the Coastal North pitching staff, scoring two runs in the eighth and adding two more runs in the ninth following two errors. However, a flyout ended the game with the tying run sitting a second base as the Coyotes escaped with an 8-7 win.
Luis Vicente finished as the only Coyote with multiple hits in the victory, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. He added a walk to his batting line. Blake Smith paced the offense with two RBIs against Spring Hill, finishing 1-for-1 at the plate with a walk and a run scored. Tucker Carlos and DJ Eurgil also picked up one RBI each in the win. Coastal North finished with eight hits and worked eight walks against the Badgers' pitching staff.
On the mound, Coastal North saw eight pitchers take the bump in a bullpen game. The eight arms combined to strike out nine batters, while issuing just three walks. Only two of the seven runs scored for Spring Hill went down as earned runs.
Road Trip on Thursday
The Coyotes head to Selma, Ala. on Thursday, March 20 as Coastal North returns to conference play with four-straight games against Wallace - Selma (Ala.). The first two games of the weekend series will be played in Selma, while the two teams meet in Brewton, Ala. on Saturday, March 22. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
