Baseball Drops Three of Four Against Bevill State

Coyotes Fall in First ACCC Series of the Season

FAYETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - North Baseball team dropped the first conference series of the 2026 season over the weekend, falling in three of four games played against Bevill State Community College (Ala.). The Coyotes hosted Bevill State for a doubleheader in Brewton to begin the four-game set on Mar. 5, splitting Thursday's decision before dropping both games played on the Bears' home field in Fayette, Ala. on Friday, Mar. 6.

The overall record falls one game below .500 on the year at 11-12 after this weekend's results, with the ACCC record dropping to 3-5.

Series Highlights

The Coyotes lone win against Bevill State came in game one in Brewton, with the 'Yotes earning a 6-3 comeback victory. The Bears opened the game with a three-run first inning, but were kept off the scoreboard for the remainder of the seven-inning game. Meanwhile, Coastal - North tied the game in the third inning with three runs, while taking the lead in the fourth with a single run. In the fifth, the Coyotes pushed across two insurance runs to seal the game.

Jesse Lord drove in a pair at the plate in the game one win, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and his team-leading seventh home run of the season. Reni Mason also drove in two off a pair of hits, including his second homer of the season, and Zoyle Gemar joined with two hits of his own. On the mound, Kieran Kostanoski settled in after a rough first inning and finished with a complete-game performance on the rubber. All three Bevill State runs were unearned as Kostanoski finished with seven innings of work, allowing five hits, three unearned runs, and striking out nine batters.

In the nightcap, Bevill State answered back and secured a 12-10 high-scoring win over the 'Yotes, scoring eight runs during the final two frames to avoid the sweep in Brewton. Coastal made things interesting in the final inning, scoring five runs to cut the lead to just two. However, Bevill State survived as the two teams split Thursday's action.

In game two, Peyton Martin paced the offense with a 3-for-5 performance at the dish, while Jesse Lord and Reni Mason each drove in two more runs. Zoyle Gemar and Rustin Pope joined Martin and Lord with doubles in the defeat.

One day later, the two teams met again on Friday, with game one of the afternoon doubleheader becoming a pitcher's duel that went to extra innings. The scheduled seven-inning game eventually finished in the 10th, with Bevill State walking off the Coyotes, 2-1. Both teams pushed across a run in the fourth, with the rest of the game going scoreless until the bottom of the 10th.

Tucker Carlos collected the Coyotes' lone extra-base hit in the loss, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI triple. Meanwhile Rustin Pope, Coastal's designated hitter for game one, also went 2-for-4 at the plate. On the mound, Kameron McCord pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just one run and giving up only four hits. McCord struck out five. Jordan Ard tossed the remaining 2.2 innings, allowing five hits and the winning run in the 10th.

The nightcap saw Bevill State clinched the four-game series, with the Bears winning, 9-3. Peyton Martin collected two more hits for the Coyotes, while Jesee Lord and Xavier Brown were credited with RBIs in the six-run loss. Coastal used four pitchers in the series finale, with the four arms combining for six walks and six earned runs.
