Series Highlights
The Governors of Wallace - Dothan opened the conference series with a 5-0 shutout win on their home field in Dothan, Ala. on Mar. 19, holding the Coyotes' offense to just four hits and snapping Coastal - North's modest five-game winning streak.
However, Coastal Alabama responded in game two with an offensive surge, outlasting Wallace - Dothan in a 14-12 slugfest. The Coyotes capitalized on clutch hitting in the nightcap in Dothan, putting together a four-run sixth inning to take the lead for good. Sam Guth drove in five runs on three hits to lead the 'Yotes past the Governors, hitting a grand slam in the third inning after recording an RBI single in the top of the first. Cooper Cantrell joined Guth with three hits in the win, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Coastal - North collected 11 hits as a team and added five walks, with Jesse Lord finishing 1-for-1 with two RBIs, three runs scores, and three walks in the shootout. Landon Jones tripled in the victory, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and adding a walk, and Zoyle Gamer notched a pair of RBIs in the win. Meanwhile, Coastal - North used three pitchers to secure the win, with Jordan Ard and Andrew Benson closing out the final four innings from out of the bullpen, combining to allow only four hits and one earned run.
Two days later, Wallace - Dothan regained control of the series with an 11-5 victory in Brewton, Ala., using a strong offensive performance to take the 2-1 edge. Xavier Brown notched four RBIs in the losing effort for the 'Yotes, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with a three-run homer. Despite Brown's big performance, Coastal's offense only tallied five hits in the loss.
In the series finale, the Coyotes answered once again in comeback fashion, scoring four runs in the sixth inning to steal the finale, 8-7. Coastal trailed 7-4 entering the final two innings, but the four-run sixth sealed the comeback and secured the conference split with the Governors.
Jesse Lord finished 1-for-2 with four RBIs in the finale, smacking a two-run homer early and adding a walk. Leadoff batter Peyton Martin scored three runs in the comeback, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, and Reni Mason walked twice while collecting an RBI himself in the win. On the mound, Jordan Ard tossed a scoreless seventh inning to collect the save, while Cameron Durr earned the win on the bump with 3 2/3 innings from out of the bullpen. Durr struck out five.
