Coastal - North Softball Celebrates Homecoming with Walk-Off Win; Drops Four of Five During Week

Coyotes Fall to 1-6 on Young 2026 Campaign Following Busy Week of Action

MONROEVILLE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - North Softball team stayed busy on their home field last week, completing five total games from Feb. 3-7. The 'Yotes finished 1-4 during the first games at home this season, falling to 1-6 overall on the year. 

Game Scores

Coastal - North opened the home portion of the schedule with a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 3, dropping a 12-0 game in five innings to John A. Logan College (Ill.). Later that afternoon, the Coyotes fell to Southern Union State (Ala.) 10-2 in six innings. Two days later on Homecoming 2026 in Monroeville, the 'Yotes managed a walk-off victory in comeback fashion over Southwest Mississippi to get into the win column.

Against the Bears of Southwest Miss., the 'Yotes won game one of a scheduled doubleheader 7-6 in eight innings, never leading in the game until the walk-off hit. Jakayla Williams played the walk-off hero, finishing with three hits and a double shy of the cycle. Williams tied the game to eventually force extra innings back in the sixth. She drove in three runs and scored one. Although started, game two against Southwest Mississippi was not completed due to darkness and was officially ruled a no contest. Game two will likely not be made up during the season. 

On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Coyotes battled but fell to East Mississippi Community College in both games of an afternoon doubleheader, falling 6-2 in game one and 7-2 in the nightcap to finish the week 1-4 officially. 

Early Season Leaders

Through seven games during the 2026 campaign, Jakayla Williams currently leads the offense with a .391 batting average, slugging .696 with a pair of doubles, triple, and a home run on the year. Williams has a team-high nine hits, stealing two bases in the process. Meanwhile, Alissa Holmes currently paces Coastal - North with five RBIs, with four RBIs coming in her last three games played, and Delana Peters sits second on the team with seven hits. Freshman Gracie Nelson has opened her collegiate career with six hits in 17 at-bats (.353 avg.).

From the pitcher's circle, freshman left-hander Abbie Huff currently leads the Coyotes with 18 innings of work from the rubber, with an ERA sitting at 4.28. Huff has secured the lone win for the pitching staff this season and leads the team with eight strikeouts. Meanwhile, fellow freshman Bayleigh Elton leads the staff with a 2.71 ERA in 10.1 innings this season.

Coyotes vs. Coyotes Ahead

Coastal - North's home stretch continues this week, with the 'Yotes hosting fellow Coyotes of Coastal Alabama - South on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 11 in Monroeville. Wednesday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT and will be the only meeting between the two sibling rivals this year. Additionally, the two games will be broadcasted live on JockJive.com.
