THE COOPER CENTER | MONROEVILLE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Men's Basketball earned a key ACCC Division II conference victory at the Cooper Center on Thursday, Jan. 8, defeating Chattahoochee Valley Community College (Ala.) 79-67 behind an explosive bench performance from Chimeziri Okeoma. The win for Coastal - North snapped a small two-game losing skid, while improving the overall record on the season to 11-8. Additionally, the Coyotes remain atop the current ACCC D-II standings with a 5-1 conference record ahead of a big matchup at home on Jan. 15.
Okeoma's Season High Lifts 'Yotes
Chimeziri Okeoma delivered a season-high 27 points off the bench against Chatt Valley, shooting an efficient 9-of-13 from the floor and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line to lead all scorers. His scoring punch proved decisive as the Coyotes pulled away in the second half.
Coastal Alabama - North shot 53.2% from the field and 50% from three-point range in the win, while knocking down 23-of-29 attempts at the charity stripe. The 'Yotes also won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding Chattahoochee Valley, 39-26. Elijah Pippins added 15 points, five assists, and three steals, while Justin Burns anchored the paint with 13 rebounds to go along with six points. Bryson Holmes chipped in six points, five rebounds, and three assists, and Rashad Mitchell finished with six points and three assists. Coastal - North was without top scorer Bryce Wilkins, who missed his first game of the season.
Defensively, Coastal North forced 16 turnovers and limited Chattahoochee Valley to 41.2% shooting from the free-throw line, helping the 'Yotes maintain control throughout the contest.
Battle for First Ahead
Following the conference win over Chattahoochee Valley, Coastal Alabama - North is set to host Snead State (Ala.) in a conference matchup featuring the top two teams in the current ACCC D-II standings on Thursday, Jan. 15. Thursday's game is set to tip off at 7:00 p.m. CT, and will be broadcasted live on JockJive.com.
