BREWTON, Ala. – Coastal Alabama – North Women's Volleyball delivered a massive win on Thursday evening, Sept. 4, upsetting the nationally-ranked and reigning ACCC Women's Volleyball Champion Enterprise State (Ala.) in four sets. Enterprise State entered Thursday ranked No. 24 in the latest NJCAA Women's Volleyball Top 25 Coaches' Poll with three more wins than Coastal North on the season. However, the Coyotes put pressure on the Boll Weevils with the help of a loud home crowd and eventually won the match, 25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22.
The victory is Coastal North's third win in a row and improves the overall record back to .500 at 3-3 this season. Additionally, the conference record this year now sits at 1-1.
How It Happened
The Yotes showed poise from the opening serve, claiming the first set in convincing fashion. Coastal North led from the opening serve across set one, eventually winning by five to set the tone of the match. In set two, the Coyotes survived a late rally from Enterprise State and won in extras 26-24 to lead the match, 2-0. After weathering a third-set rally from the Boll Weevils, Coastal North responded with a determined fourth set and sealed the match and the upset.
As a team, the Yotes put together a strong performance offensively, recording a .269 hitting percentage with 49 kills on 119 attempts. Ella Sprouse powered the offense with a match-high 16 kills on a .364 hitting percentage while also adding three service aces and two blocks. Lexie Drace followed Sprouse with 14 kills on a .423 hitting line, adding a team-high nine defensive digs, and Faith Reid finished with nine kills in the four-set win. Hannah Vinas set the offense with a stellar 42-assist performance, chipping in six digs.
Defensively, Coastal North recorded 40 digs and 19 total blocks/assists against Enterprise State's strong offensive attack. Ali Simon managed three block assists and two solo blocks, while Savannah Creamer came away with four block assists and two solo blocks.
With the win, Coastal Alabama - North not only hands Enterprise State its first conference loss of the season but also sends a message across the ACCC that the Yotes are not to be overlooked as contenders.
Road Trip Ahead
The Coyotes are back in action on Monday night, Sept. 8 with the first of five-straight road matches after the statement home win on Thursday. Coastal North travels to Evergreen, Ala. on Monday for a conference matchup against Reid State Tech (Ala.) in hopes for a fourth consecutive victory. The Yotes' next home matchup is set for Sept. 20.
