JACK ROBERTSON ARENA | BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Coastal Alabama - North Women's Basketball fell to Coastal Alabama - South 63-60 in the second and final meeting between the two programs of the 2025-26 season on Monday evening, Dec. 15, with Coastal - South sweeping the series across two games played. The two teams opened the 2025-26 campaign against one another back on Nov. 1 in Monroeville, Ala, with Coastal - South eventually winning, 83-66.
On Monday in Bay Minette, Coastal - South secured a three-point win despite a second-half push from Coastal - North. The Yotes of Coastal - North see the overall record drop to 6-9 following Monday's defeat.
Coyotes Struggle from the Line in Three-Point Loss
After a slow start offensively for both sides, Coastal - South eventually built a seven-point halftime advantage, leading Coastal - North 38-30 at the break. Coastal - North responded in the second half, trimming the deficit behind an 18-point fourth quarter, but the comeback fell just short as Coastal - South survived on its home floor.
Joy Minnifield had a big night from off the bench, leading all players in the game with a season-high 21 points while adding two steals and two assists. Ariel Gilchrist followed and recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Starr Pittman joined Minnifield with success from off the bench by chipping in nine points. Coastal - North finished Monday's contest with just a 26.2% shooting line, while making only 17-of-35 free-throw attempts, eventually hurting the chances of a win over the fellow Coyotes.
Meanwhile, Shamiya Oliver led Coastal Alabama - South with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, picking up her second double-double of the year, while Kalaysia Robinson picked up her first double-double of the season with a 12-point, 11-rebound performance. Shakira Williams added 13 points from off the bench, making clutch shots throughout the night.
Both teams were aggressive defensively, combining for 24 steals, while the game featured frequent trips to the free-throw line. Coastal - South finished with five blocks and forced 17 turnovers, helping preserve the narrow victory.
Off Until the New Year
Coastal Alabama - North Women's Basketball will take the remainder of the month of December off and are set to return to action in January of 2026 with eight games across the month. Coastal - North's first game back is set for Jan. 5 at Lurleen B. Wallace (Ala.) in an ACCC matchup.
