NEW ORLEANS, La. - Coastal Alabama - North Women's Basketball delivered a gritty performance on the road at Delgado Community College (La.), ultimately falling 64-63 in a thrilling non-conference battle Saturday afternoon, Jan. 24.
The Coyotes fell behind early but rallied throughout the contest, matching Delgado's intensity on both ends of the floor. Coastal - North trailed by two points at halftime but remained within striking distance as the teams traded leads in a tightly contested second half.
Saije Taylor led the attack for the Coyotes, finishing with a game-high 23 points and making key plays down the stretch. Taylor's aggressive drives and scoring presence kept the 'Yotes within a possession of the lead late in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Joy Minnifield added 12 points, and Grace Smith chipped in nine points while battling on the glass. The balanced offensive effort kept Coastal - North competitive throughout the game.
Delgado's Miracle Irving poured in 33 points to lift the Dolphins in the closing moments and secure the one-point victory. The Coyotes had a chance in the final seconds after cutting the deficit to one, but Delgado's defense forced a tough finish that ultimately sealed the outcome.
Despite the loss, Coastal - North showcased resilience and effort on the road, competing fiercely in the clutch. The 'Yotes, now 8-13 on the season, continues road action next on the schedule, traveling to Evergreen, Ala. on Thursday, Jan. 29 for a conference game against rival Reid State Tech (Ala.). Thursday's tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. CT.
