Misti Nims is starting her 25th year as a head coach at Coastal Alabama Community College, formerly known as Jefferson Davis Community College before the acquisition. She was named the Coastal Alabama Men's & Women's Head Cross Country coach in 2023 after a major restructure in athletics. In her first season leading the cross country program, the men's team was ranked nationally (23rd), won its first ever race, had an ACCC Runner of the Week, and ended the year at the national meet; finishing 26th in the nation. Her men's team was also named to the USTFCCA All-Academic Team, with three runners earning All-Academic awards.
In 2024, Nims saw continued success across her men's team, with the Coyotes qualifying for the NJCAA Cross Country National Championship for the second consecutive season and ranking as high as No. 11 in the country. Zander Querns became Coastal Alabama's first cross country runner to be named to the ACCC All-Region Team. Additionally, four Coyotes across both programs later earned USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition.
Coach Nims' coaching career started as the head softball coach in 2001 where she led the program to 14 conference tournament appearances. In 2015, Coach Nims was named the ACCC Softball Coach of the Year. During her time in Brewton, Coach Nims was also the Head Volleyball Coach from 2003-2013 until she stepped down to focus on only coaching softball. She has produced countless NJCAA Academic All-Americans, All-Region players, All-Conference players, and also has helped numerous players move on to the next level.
Besides her coaching duties, Coach Nims is also a full-time instructor in the Health / Physical Education department. She is a native of Cantonment, Florida, where she was a four-year starter for the softball team and a two-year starter for the volleyball team at J.M. Tate High School. She earned a softball scholarship to Pensacola Junior College (Fla.) where she was an All-Academic team member and an All-Conference first baseman. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Sports Science and her Master's degree in Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science/ Physical Education at the University of West Florida.
